During their time with us, children will be formally assessed at key points in their school career, in addition to ongoing daily assessment for learning. The results of the formal assessments are used by the DfE to measure attainment and standards.
As a small school with a maximum of 27 children in each class each pupil is statistically worth 3.7% in comparison to an “average” 2 form entry infant school which has 60 pupils in the year group, making each pupil statistically 1.6%.
Early Years Foundation Stage Assessment
In the Early Years Foundation Stage, children are assessed against the seven areas of the EYFS. These assessments are made throughout the course of the year. At the end of the year, children are judged as to whether they have achieved a ‘Good Level of Development’ (GLD). To achieve GLD, children must achieve the Early Learning Goal in the three prime areas of learning (Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Communication and Language) alongside the specific areas of Mathematics and Literacy.

Year One Phonic Screening Check
The phonics screening check is a statutory assessment for year 1 pupils (typically aged 6) that confirms whether they have met the expected standard in phonic decoding. Pupils who do not meet the standard in year 1 or were not checked, will take part in the check at the end of year 2 (typically aged 7).
