The Tiger Who Came To Tea - Visit Weston-super-Mare

Christingles

We made Christingles and learnt about the meaning of the different parts of the orange. We enjoyed our school Christingle service, especially the part when we lit our candle and held our orange very still.

We have been writing think bubbles for the characters from the story and sequencing the main events. We have also shared 10 snacks between Sophie and the Tiger in lots of different ways eg 6 and 4,  3 and 7

Child-led learning

Each week the children look back over the week's learning and plan where their journey will take them next. After an interest in animals and caring for living things, the children suggested we have a vet area in class and they set up the things needed for role playing and mark-making. These included a variety of soft toy animals, plastic syringes, bandages, masks, stethoscopes, medicine, tweezers, appointment cars and and animal information books. What a lot of rich learning and widening of vocabulary resulted!

Gold Coin Treat

As a class, we voted for our what treat to have once we earned 10 gold coins. The most votes went to "Bring a toy or game to school" and we all enjoyed sharing one of our toys or games with our friends in Hedgehogs Class. This was a fantastic opportunity to practise our skills of sharing, turn-taking, collaboration and respect for each other's possessions. I wonder what our next treat will be......

Kinetic Letters

We have weekly sessions when we learn the correct formation of families of letters, using the Kinetic Letters handwriting scheme. The children listen to a story explaining the letter formation, learn the moves involved in writing the letters, then we all practise writing them correctly using our "tree" boards and lying on our tummies to develop our core strength.

Superheroes!

We decided on Superheroes as an enhancement for our learning. We made lit-up buildings and skyscrapers for our Superhero cities. We designed and made traps for villains using junk modelling. We wrote speech bubbles for what our Superheroes might say and we created a Superhero name and superpower.
